For the Face: VMA 2010 Hayley Williams Look

I don't know about you but i loved the fresh faced orange look that they put on Hayley at the 2010 VMA preformance. Not only did she in my opinion rock the stage but I think that this fair natural look made her look Glowy-Dewy and Rosy. I have much darker brows and lashes (no red hair sorry) but pretty much everything in this look can replicated. Here's what I did:

List of Products:
[Eyes]
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Mac Paint Pot in Coral Crepe
Mark's eyeshadow in Blondi Beach
Mac eyeshadow in Vanilla
Nyx's Jumbo Pencil in Milk
Benefit Bad Gal mascara in Brown
[Face]
Coola Mineral Tinted Moisturizer
Mac Mineralize skinfinish(Medium)
Stila's highlighter in Rose Gold
Mark's Sun Love Glo blush
[Lips]
Healthy Lip Polish in Monica

I started off with UDPP all over the lid. I then applied Coral Crepe with a Mac 217 brush from the outer part of the lid all the way up and past the crease making sure not to go past the iris. Next i patted Paradisco all over Coral crepe with a Sigma 239 brush*. In the inner corner i used a 227 type brush (brush and fluffy shader brush from CVS) and applied Blondi Beach and blended into the paradisco eyeshadow. Next I used a pencil brush and lined the lower lashline with Blondi Beach. Next smeared Nyx's jumbo pencil in milk on the back of my hand used the smear product to line the lash line with angular liner brush. I did this to avoid excess amount of product on my lash line because my eyes are particularly sensitive.
Because Hayley has such fair complected skin and lashes the make up artist from what i can tell did not use a mascara so i tried to light up my black lashes with benefit's Bad Gal Mascara. For the skin I used a tinted moisturizer with my finger tips to get a very light coverage and finished of with Mineralize Skinfinish to set. Using Stila's highlighter I applied it to my cupids bow and the tops of my cheeks and down my nose. Remember if you have larger pores this may not be a good idea as the product will only emphasize the size of the pores. Using an angled blush I took Mark's Sun Love Glo and brushed it from the hairline down to the apples of the cheeks. For the lips I simply topped it off with Buxon's Lip polish in Monica(A Golden Peach).

I love this inspired look because it is very day time. This look could be very Summer or Fall because of the golden and oranges.

What do you think?

For the Face: Coola Mineral Sunblock

As tinted moisturizer Coola Mineral Sunblock is thicker than most tinted moisturizer products I've tried. With an SPF of 20 it's great for everyday use. I have used the Stila illuminating tinted moisturizer, The sheer color tinted moisturizer, the sheer tinted moisturizer with an SPF 30, and Mark's Get A Tint with an SPF 20. So although I have tried alot I only have it to compare it to these brands. The consistency is fairly thick and it doesn't run down my hand. The color is also fair so for you medium to dark colored beauties I wouldn't recommend it.

I would compare this color to a NC 20 by Mac/Fair to Light/From Bobbi Brown From Warm Ivory to a Cool Beige.

Here you can see the product spread out a so that type of coverage that it gives. I would say that it is about a light to fair amount of coverage. It doesn't hit medium on the coverage scale but it does even out the skin tone overall. It is also Rose scented. I found it to be lovely and light if your the person who doesn't like the scented version Unscented is available. I often set this with Mac's MineralizeSkinfinish powder in medium and it gives a very natural finish.

Pros: Even Coverage
Works as a VERY Light Foundation
Spreads Evenly
Packaging has a pump
ORGANIC!
Cons: Pricey 36$ a pop (Bobbi Brown is 40$)
Color choice is Very Limited

What do you think? is a tinted moisturizer like this worth the price? Have you guys found anything that is your Holy Grail (HG) item? Let me know.

For the Photo: Greasing it Up Rocka Baby!

Meet Amanda T., a pretty cool girl with a fierce attitude. Today I went on a photo-shoot with my soon to be Hubby and I did the makeup. This is just the behind the scenes photo from my not so professional Canon.

What I did:

To start off I primed the face with a silicone based primer. Then I used a foundation with a Mac 109 brushes and buffed it into the skin to get a even coverage. Next I applied Laura Mercier's secret concealer in #3 medium and then set the concealer with Bobbi Brown's sheer finish loose powder. For the eyes I applied Urban Decay's Primer Potion original and went all over with Mac's Vanilla eyeshadow as a colored based. Using Urban Decay's perversion eyeshadow I used a Sigma pencil brush to define a crease and used the Mac 217 to buff out any harsh edges. Next I took a the color gunmetal from Urban decay and patted it over the high point of the eyelid and blended it into the crease color. Picking up the vanilla once more i used it to highlight the inner corners and the brow bone. Then I took the wheat color (there is no name as far as I could tell) from the Smashbox shutter speed trio and once more went over the top of the inner corner. Next i toke the Urban Decay eyeshadow in sellout and went over the brow bone with an angled brush by Sigma.
My models eyes was small so I lined her water line with a white pencil and used Mac's black track fluid finely lining her lids. Next I took a cherry color lip liner by Clinque and Mac's Russian Red for her lips and finished off with a clear gloss. For her cheeks I used Mark's cheeky creme blush and a stippling brush by Sigma and brushed over it a reddish loose powder blush. I also used High Beam and Hoola Bronzer both by Benefit.

Let me know what you think in the comment's. Also I will post the professional photo's when the Hubbster is finished editing.

For the Face: Philosophy Purity

So at a beauty event that I went with my girl Chelsea, (who is one of the very best of friends that i'm blessed to have) we were given a "Swag Bag". Now when I say swag bag it really mean stuff she paid for because the event cost a ridiculous amount of money. Inside the bag however was a 4 oz bottle of Purity Made Simple by Philosophy. Now I've been using this cleanser for about 4 weeks now and I don't see anything that is Particularly amazing about this product. It does what says it does as far as cleansing the face and getting rid of the excess dirt and makeup and is very gentle which is a definite Pro but it does not get all of the liner and mascara off at the end of the washing and has to be used several times. Now this cleanser retails for around 10 dollars for a 3oz which is pretty expensive if you ask me. The directions are as follows

-At the end of each day or at the beginning of each morning, use a small amount of product (with a little water), massage onto skin for 30-60 seconds.

What I did:

Start with a Dirty Face. ;)

Lather it up baby! (30-60 seconds)

And dry it off!

As you can see if you look closely there is mascara residue, so it doesn't completely get off all of the product. Another thing to keep in mind is that today was my hardly-any-make-up-day and so it might take a little more work if you choose to try it out. Another thing that I have noticed about the product it that it is particularly drying as i felt a tightening in my cheeks and chin. I might recommend this to someone who has a slightly more oily skin. As for me, I have a combination dry to oily skin.

Any thoughts or comments about Purity? Let me know.

Beauty and a Honest Face

Hello so this is my adventure into the blogging world and it is quite unnerving because I'm a tiny fish in a huge ocean. The Blog title 'HonestFace' was chosen because an Honest Face is a beautiful face and with that it seemed like we need some honest beauty bloggers out there(and no, this is not to point the finger at other bloggers). Honest face is also about the naked face, just as it is, without makeup and with the acne problems, freckles, discoloration, dark circles, laugh lines, and puffy eyes. I have all of these things as 24 year young woman and I'm sure you guys do too. With the beauty world that deceives to sell i'm here which brings me to another topic the Federal Trade Commission(FTC) and Blogging, and I will not RAVE about things I don't absolutely believe in or use. If something is ever sent to me I will give an honest review all bull aside.I will purchase all of my own product so if there is a lack of posting there is a lack of money. =)
As for who I am, my name is Andrea or Drea for short and I developed a love for all things beauty about five years ago while taking makeup classes at my local community college. Since then I have been trepidatious about exploring that love through blogging. I did stage makeup for the colleges plays such 'Blithe Spirit' and 'Anna in The Topics'. Translating stage and theatrical makeup to everyday life made me grow increasingly curious about everyday tips and overall beauty well being. I currently go to CSULA (California State University of Los Angeles) and am interested in interdisciplinary education as well as globalization and Philosophy. My loves include animals, fashion, and cooking(I'm a foodie by nature).
